Learning

the entrepreneurial way

hello!

I'm a business geek and read a lot on business topics whether in formal textbooks, an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, or a coulleague's idea on the back of a napkin.

When I came across Josh Kaufman's Personal MBA concept I was itrigued that someone formally put a structure around something many people have been doing for years (and that's a good thing).

This site is my attempt to write about the business books and topics I am reading. I will loosely follow the Personal MBA reading list. The biggest difference in my adaptation of the Personal MBA is that the subject matter will be tailored towards my own business interests and experience. My professional focus is information technology, so you will notice more books centered on technology topics. Likewise, you will find me going "off list" and reading books off the list, but relevant to business nonetheless. You will also notice commentary on articles written in current business newspapers and magazines. The Personal MBA, after all, is personal and the best part is it can be adapted to each individual's needs.

Everyone tries to compare the Personal MBA concept to a traditional MBA degree. Please don't. They aren't the same thing and each has it's own reasons for pursuit. For me, I would be personally studying various business topics on my own anyways, so putting some structure around my study is a good thing. Having a web site with commentary is even better because it forces me to focus and think critically about what I am reading so I can summarize it and (sometimes intellegently) comment on it.

For what it's worth this entire site was programmed from scratch. Any canned blogging software would have required as much modification to customize as writing just the features I needed from scratch.
